UNDERSTANDING THE RECOVERY PROCESS

UNDERSTANDING THE RECOVERY PROCESS

Many people believe that unless a person has completely destroyed their life, they must not have a serious addiction. Research shows that this simply isn't true. In a survey of HR professionals, 67% of them named addiction as one of the most serious problems their company faces.

Just because an employee is managing to keep their job, it doesn't mean they are performing as well as they could. When an employee is suffering from addiction, employers can expect to see decreased productivity, increased absenteeism, errors in judgment, poor concentration, and a disregard for safety.

Luckily, these employees can be helped and back to performing at the usual level in a short amount of time. The Coastal Treatment Center "Back to Work in 30 Days" program is designed specifically for those who need to overcome their addiction and get back to their career.

The treatment takes place in 3 distinct phases that all serve an important purpose. As the individual moves through the treatment, they will gain the healing, knowledge, and skills to successfully rejoin the workforce as clean and sober employees.

Phase 1 - Detox

Before anything else can happen, detox must take place. After an individual goes through an assessment, they will begin a customized treatment plan that takes into account the patient's history and drug of choice. With around the clock care, the patient can expect to have all of their needs attended to and their pain and discomfort reduced as much as possible. The team of doctors, nurses, behavioral therapists, CNAs, and holistic treatment specialists will work with the patient with compassion and great care.

During this process, the patient can expect to begin clinical counseling. They will receive healthy meals and snacks to help their body recover. Additionally, there is a wide range of holistic therapies available. These include massage, acupuncture, meditation, yoga, cold laser, and more.

Once the body is completely cleared of chemical substances through the individual treatment plan, the patient will be ready to move on to Phase 2 of the "Back to Work in 30 Days" program.

Phase 2 - Residential Treatment

After the body has made great strides in healing, it will be time to start the work of healing the mind. This is done in a 2-3 week residential treatment. All of the clinicians at Coastal have advanced degrees and the experience necessary to create a customized plan of action for each patient.

Patients will benefit from both individual and group therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialect Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma Psychoeducation Therapy are all options that have been proven highly effective in the treatment of addiction. During their time in residential treatment, patients will have the opportunity to experience AA/NA meetings. Wellness groups are another tool used to help patients learn how to function in society without their addiction. Patient's will be exposed to the GORSKI Relapse Prevention training that has proven exceptionally successful.

The clinicians careful monitor all patients and determine when they are ready to move on to Phase 3. They will make sure they have the skills, insight, knowledge, and healing needed to be successful in the next phase of their treatment.

Phase 3 - Intensive Outpatient Treatment

For the following 3 to 6 months, the patient will need to follow their aftercare treatment plan. The most important aspect of this is the referral to a reputable in-network outpatient treatment center. They will also be given the information needed to get involved in their local AA or NA chapter.

Employees will need to attend their outpatient treatment program 1-3 nights a week. They should also be regularly attending AA/NA meetings. In the following 3-6 months, they will cement the skills and knowledge they received in residential treatment to ensure lifelong sobriety.

For those who need a little extra help, there are optional advanced treatment options for Phase 3. Vivitrol injections are a great tool in helping an individual abstain from drugs or alcohol. It is a FDA approved injectable version of the drug Naltrex that has a slow-release. It not only blocks the pleasure centers in the brain affected by alcohol and opiates, it also reduces cravings. If the employee needs extra accountability, there is the option to have a Coastal Certified Addiction Counselor call them 1-2 times a week to make sure they are still on the right path. This can continue for the entire 3-6 months.
